MAKING
CIVIL SOCIETY WORK: This 6-month project
consisted in an ample research designed to substantiate
an up-to-date evaluation of the condition of civil society
in Romania. It involved an analysis of most of the documents
written about the Romanian civil society, including
the Charity Know-How Fund and Mott Report, the IDEA
Report on Civil Society, the White Paper of the Romanian
Non Governmental Organizations Forums, the CSDF annual
reports, the strategic assessments of the UNDP, EU,
World Bank, Stability Pact, Romanian Government and
Romanian Presidency Office for Relations with the Civil
Society, fieldwork in 4 Romanian regions, in depth interviews
with NGO prominent leaders, public officials and media
actors involved in civil society. The research team
was led by Andrei Stoiciu. The project was part of a
larger regional project, carried out in partnership
with the Carpathian Foundation and the Group for the
Implementation of NGOs Forum Resolution. It was funded
by USAID in cooperation with Americas Development
